TITLE: Part-Time Junior Cook

HOURS:  20 hrs/week, evenings and weekends, some week days.


  • Serving meals buffet style as directed by Supervisor
  • Meal preparation and clean up
  • Cooking meals according to set menu
  • Serve to guests and clear tables on special occasions
  • Maintain a high standard of sanitation


  • Commit to kitchen schedule (previously set with your input)
  • Be on time and commit to weekends
  • Be able to troubleshoot independently in kitchen setting
  • Work independently, be hospitable and responsible to guests’ needs within reason
  • Cooking meals for 40+ people with assistance
  • Meal preparation, i.e. chopping, salad preps, dessert preps and other
  • Presentation of food
  • Preparation of an inviting dining area for special functions with full responsibility for clean-up afterwards and at the end of every shift
  • Baking as assigned by Supervisor
  • Preventing food waste; cleaning and recycling in kitchen and dining area
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the floors in the kitchen and dining area
  • Advising supervisor or chef on duty of supplies that are needed
  • Performing other duties as required or requested by supervisor
  • Experience working in a team environment


  • Practical food preparation, cooking and baking experience
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation regulations in the handling of food and equipment
  • Physical ability to lift food containers, pots filled with hot food or soup, etc.
  • Maintain CPR/first aid, WHIMS, and Safe Food Handling certification
  • Willingness and ability to be trained to meet the unique retreat house healthy cooking objectives, initiative and enthusiasm towards working at Galilee Centre
