Following the Nonviolent Jesus: Gospel Peacemaking in the War-making World

Join us for a weekend retreat with John Dear, SJ to reflect on the Gospel call to non-violence. The weekend will include a Friday evening public lecture at St. Joseph’s Parish in Ottawa. The weekend will also involve discussion and reflective time. Dear’s books will be available for sale.

John Dear is both a Nobel Peace Prize and Gandhi Peace Award nominee and is an internationally recognized voice for peace and nonviolence. A Jesuit priest, pastor, peacemaker, and author, he served for years as the Director of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, the largest interfaith peace organization in the U.S. After September 11, 2001, he was a Red Cross coordinator of chaplains at the Family Assistance Center in New York, where he counseled thousands of people. Dear has traveled the war zones of the world, been arrested some 75 times for peace, given thousands of lectures on peace across the U.S., and served as a pastor of several churches in the high desert of New Mexico. He currently writes a weekly column for “The National Catholic Reporter” at www.ncrcafe.org.

His books include: Transfiguration; You Will Be My Witnesses;   Living PeaceThe Questions of Jesus;   The God of Peace Jesus the Rebel;   Peace Behind Bars;  and Disarming the Heart.  He is featured in the film, “The Narrow Path.”

Friday Evening Public Lecture is $15 per person for those not participating in the weekend Retreat.
