Ecofeminism, broadly conceived, recognizes that the ecological crisis and the oppression of women are related within a logic of domination. It is a political theory, theological lens for understanding, and framework for understanding one=s own life. Ecofeminism can be a powerful tool for understanding global and local issues, and for developing one=s own spirituality.

In this workshop Jessica Fraser will present the main themes of ecofeminism, demonstrate how it operates in concrete situations, and explore its dimensions within religion and spirituality.

Jessica Fraser lives in Beckwith Township, which is situated within the Rideau River Watershed.

Fraser has worked in the areas of religion, ecology and feminism for eight years. She has studied and taught in the areas of feminist theory, ecofeminism, ecotheology, Catholic social thought, and Christian ethics. Fraser is currently completing a PhD in theology (Saint Paul University). Her area of research focuses on the role of ecological literacy in promoting the likelihood of reducing our ecological footprint. Fraser=s commitments to feminism and ecology are also demonstrated in her work with the Green Party of Canada and Ontario, and in raising her young son.

This workshop/session is being offered as part of the Spirituality & Social Justice Institute at Galilee Centre.
