FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nobel Peace Prize Nominee coming to Arnprior’s Galilee Centre John Dear has been nominated for both the Nobel Peace Prize and the Gandhi Peace Award Arnprior, ON – February 20, 2008 – John Dear, SJ, an internationally recognized voice for peace, is scheduled to come to Arnprior’s Galilee Centre in August. "We found out very recently that John (Dear) was nominated for both the Nobel Peace Prize and the Gandhi Peace Award,” said Darlene O’Leary, Executive Director, Galilee Centre. “We were happy and honored to have John coming for a retreat and now that we’ve learned about his nomination, we are ecstatic.” Dear will be giving a lecture from 7 to 9 pm, Friday, August 22 at St. Joseph’s Parish in Ottawa. From there, Dear will continue on to Galilee Centre for a rare weekend retreat at Galilee from 9 am on Saturday, August 23 to 1 pm on Sunday, August 24. Dear is a Jesuit priest, activist, peacemaker, and author, he has served for years as the director of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, the largest interfaith peace organization in the U.S. “We will be reflecting on the Gospel call to non-violence during our weekend retreat,” said O’Leary. “We are really looking forward to his visit and to some discussion and reflective time with John.” Dear’s books will also be available for purchase at Galilee Centre for that weekend.
